Leading The Way For Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Bid

Last week saw the visit of the Commonwealth Games Federation Review Team to Birmingham, as Britain's second city goes head to head with Liverpool for selection as Candidate City for England in the bid to host the XXII Commonwealth Games in 2022.

ORIGIN Sports Group were engaged at the beginning of 2017 to lead a consortium of leading specialists in the development of a feasibility study looking at the opportunity to bid for and host the Commonwealth Games in 2026. Following the decision by the Commonwealth Games Federation to strip Durban of the rights to host the Games in 2022, Birmingham were in an excellent position to turn their feasibility study into a very credible bid to replace Durban as host.

In collaboration with Four Communications, Trivandi and PWC amongst others, ORIGIN were tasked to bring together a bid team that was capable of transforming the outcomes of the feasibility study into a formal bid in a condensed bid process. Led by Debbie Jevans, the team were able to deliver a bid that was not only low-cost and low-risk, but a bid that celebrates the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth in one of the world's most culturally diverse cities.

Birmingham has a rich history of hosting world class sporting events in venues ranging from the NEC, Barclaycard Arena, Edgbaston and Alexander Stadium; and with approximately 25 million people living within 1 hour of Birmingham you can be sure the atmosphere would be electric.

The Commonwealth Games Federation are expected to make their decision on the host of the 2022 Games by the beginning of the Autumn.
